Igor Skorsky's wit was a joy to all who were associated with him, and stories of it were widely quoted. One such story, possibly apocryphal, but characteristic of his quiet humor, had him at a beach party on a windy evening. The seagulls, as they do under these wind conditions, hung nearly motionless over the beach. One lady said to Igor: "Mr. Sikorsky, don't those seagulls fly beautifully?" To which he was supposed to have replied: "Indeed, Madame, they are infringing on at least four of my patents".
