The French consider an objet d'art to be a "relatively small" object of priceless beauty and/or value. In the case of the art of Andy Whyte, objets d'art refer to something much larger-canvases onto which Andy has painted, with his heart and soul, the aviation that he loves and, especially, the helicopters with which he has been intimately involved. For 40 years, Andrew Whyte engineered preliminary design with Sikorsky Aircraft. For 30 of those years, he has been an artist as well. Helicopters as subjects for his art are logical extensions of his life long concerns.

CrossRoads Access, Inc. Corinth History The S-29A, which made its maiden flight in 1924, was later bought by pilot Roscoe Turner, who sold it to Howard Hughes. One of his most successful aircraft was the twin-engine S-38 amphibian, 114 of which were built and used by 10 airlines to pioneer commercial air travel in the Western Hemisphere.
Igor Sikorsky Photo Essay - Conclusion It took years to make the fragile and temperamental helicopter reliable; indeed, early machines were sometimes described as a thousand parts flying in close formation. Igor Sikorsky retired from Sikorsky Aircraft's top position in 1957, at the age of 68, after three very distinct careers and a half-century of pioneering work in aviation.
Early Sikorsky Aircraft Interestingly, the first area of aviation that Igor Sikorsky endeavored in was vertical flight, though his initial efforts in this area proved unsuccessful. After a lack of success with his first two helicopters he turned to the design and construction of airplanes, only to return successfully to helicopters some twenty five years later.
Dead Inventors' Corner Having emigrated to the United States after the Russian Revolution, the inventor successfully developed passenger airplanes. United Aircraft bought Sikorsky's small company and asked him to design a direct-lift aircraft.

A French Seaplane Web Site.
